There are a few exemptions but overall, it’s the same: You can have bad guys within the system, you can have bad guys using the system to do bad deeds, you can even have bad guys changing the system to suit them… but the system, as such, is seldom addressed- and even less criticized…. I just saw your text on sex crimes within the military- again, it is the same thing… there might be a film ( or two, or three) made which refers to the issue but, it will always be about one guy ( or several of them) who are bad and who, at the end, get “what they deserve” — but the system which makes predatory behavior normal is not criticized. In fact, ( In most of the films I saw) , it will be the “good guys” within the same system who, at the end, save the day.
I have this impression that with time, instead of improving, things are getting worse and worse- and there is constantly less critique, even satire both on film and TV….
( due to the wonderful TV of ex-Yugoslavia) I grew up on a steady diet of British comedies- Monthy Payton, alo alo, only fools and horses…and not to be forgotten Yes Minister series … nowadays, when I occasionally run into someone replaying and old episode of one of these shows- I often find myself wondering how many of the jokes, gags and references that were being made then- would have gotten past the “politically correct” censorship of today. MY guess is very few…..
It might be that it’s just me wondering… but I do think that there is something wrong with a system which makes everything fit into a certain mold, and rejects any kind of disagreement or different thinking- no matter what the reasoning behind it is .
