Overall, I am not a big fan of posting links to other people’s articles… but ( just like every year about this time) after spending the past 3 days days dealing with the insanity of those who believe the perpetrators, when they claim “It never happened” , these, somehow, seem appropriate

It is exactly by denying or belittling these events ( like the Serbian PM calling what happened in Srebrenica “A misunderstanding”), or by trying to equate the victim and the perpetrator ( That’s when people who are trying to justify what happened start saying “But they killed “the others” too….. It is the same as taking an example of the several cases in which individual Jews in some european countries ,killed German civilians in revenge for what was happening and saying that holocaust was OK since “they killed Germans too”)
that we create fertile ground for future horrors.
And, if you never had the misfortune to live through it, you can not imagine how quickly, if people are not careful, things go horribly wrong. And one of the ways to make sure that they do go wrong is by forgetting what already happened.
