BREXIT has nothing to do with momentary trends or daily politics. It is about the one thing no one will say publicly…. The British empire
while everyone keeps looking at the usual point laid out to keep the masses looking one way, the real news passes by unnoticed and, in most cases, unconnected with the bigger picture.
In case anyone missed this, after a couple of decades of ageing equipment and all sorts of cuts- Britain ( which retired it's old carriers a few years ago) is launching new airplane carriers, with upgraded possibilities and quite a decent, “force projection” profile. There are plans for building another two or three, thus ( budget willing) making Britain the second aircraft-carrier power in the world…
That, in itself, wouldn't be that unusual for Britain, but, add to that the plans for building new bases in the Asia/Pacific regions, the expansion of “special units warfare” … ( Most people do not know that in the recent period the British special units were “in action” in more than 70 countries all over the world) , the expanding list of countries with “military cooperation” , and all the other stories that leak out here and there, and you get a clear picture of a country prepping up for a role that is much bigger than the one it currently has… In other words, it shows that Britain is getting ready to re- acquire it’s old status…
And that is impossible if Britain is within the EU, and shares it’S defense and economic policy with 27 other countries all of which have their own interests in mind.
Now, the EU itself was the brain-child of Britain. It was Churchill who lead the push for it's creation in the wake of WWII, as a way to avoid future wars in Europe. And in that context, the EU has been very successful, and it has also served it's purpose. So, while the world is getting back to “populism”, London decided it is just the right time to pull out, and get ready for the next stage…
The politics, “national pride” , migration, and the economy, are just the words they use to make the voters move one way or another … ( OK, the economy is tightly connected with this entire thing — since, under the EU policies, Britain would not be able to spend as much as it wants to spend , in the future, on “defense”- also, EU economic rules, although good for many- are not good for one country trying to become an empire again)
