anti-oxidants, de-tox products, cosmetic products, bottled water…. Not just one, but all sorts of industries are built and thriving on the premise of convincing the consumers that they absolutely need something that they do not need at all, and then sell it at the price that will give the highest profit…

And to make things completely silly … people should have learned that by now- But no. The consumers are getting easier and easier to manipulate.

Here is the thing… just like this article here, there are thousands upon thousands of essays, articles, scientific papers… all sorts of things available on the internet which explain the entire setup much better than I can, yet, for some reason, the target audiences ( consumers of these products) do not read them. Instead they fall for whichever line the marketing department of a given corporation has decided to sell. It never stops to fascinate me — how internet, the one thing in human history which has given everyone access to endless amounts of knowledge and information, is being used to dumb people down. And the fact that the people are self-dumbing through their choice of information sources just makes everything even more ironic.
